Individualism  |Personal life  | In [the Oct. 2] issue of the Tulsa World, was an article by Jennifer Burns, (“Ayn Rand needed a lot of stroking,” Oct. 2). A woman who has written a book about Ayn Rand apparently read the wrong Branden book; she read Nathaniel Branden’s views and not Barbara Branden’s “The Passion of Ayn Rand.” Branden belonged to Rand’s inner circle and wrote brilliantly and fairly about the genius and the frailties of Rand.

Atlas Shrugged movie  |Atlas Shrugged  |The Virtue of Selfishness  |Egoism  | “Atlas Shrugged,” the book by Ayn Rand, has a message. The book, published more than 50 years ago and now a movie (“Atlas Shrugged: Part I”), tells us that unions are bad, government regulations are bad and taxes are bad. These conclusions follow a premise described in another book by Rand, “The Virtue of Selfishness.” Don’t bother reading the book. The title is the message.

Atlas Shrugged  |Capitalism  | [Mike Cantrell] talked about the irony of his reading “Atlas Shrugged” — the libertarian novel that details the gradual, passive collapse of a capitalist, competitive society — during the last presidential election. "That's the option we make when we don't engage politically," he said. "We have to fight for our right to make money."

Ayn Rand Institute  |Atlas Shrugged  |Night of January 16th  |The Fountainhead  |The Virtue of Selfishness  |Capitalism  |Personal life  | Two thoughts arise when you consider the Owasso Community Theatre's next production. Correction — first comes an exclamation and then a question: "I didn't realize Ayn Rand wrote a play. And why is Owasso Community Theatre producing it?” “I've had a lot of people who've told me, 'I didn't know she'd written any plays,' " said George Romero, the play's director. "She did not think of herself as a playwright at all. I think she was even a bit embarrassed by her playwriting skills because she thought of herself as more of a novelist and philosopher and political theorist."

Decades ago Ayn Rand stated "Every government interference in the economy consists of giving an unearned benefit, extorted by force, to some men at the expense of others." It is as true today as it was then.

The Fountainhead  | I [...] think it's hilarious when people feel the need to brag about how much they can't stand "American Idol," like they're at home reading “The Fountainhead” instead. Guess what? I don't like pro hockey, so I don't watch it. Problem solved.
